These coats are heated, fashionable AND they charge your phone – could life get any better?

While we may have readily available heated jackets, what we don’t have is heated jackets that look incredibly fashionable. But Rana Nakhal Solset, founder of Emel and Aris, may be about to shake things up with her first ever line of clothing: ‘Smart Coats’.

For both men and women, these coats feature heating systems that can be adjusted with three temperatures.
‘The technology is made from a specially formulated lightweight polymer. It produces far infrared (FIR) heat energy that is absorbed by the skin to heat the muscles and increase blood flow so you feel warm all over – not hot, just perfectly comfortable,’ Rana says in her promotional video.

And while the coats may just seem like an acceptable way to wear an electric blanket out of the house, they’re so much more. The coat can also be used as your own portable charger, thanks to the USB port in the small rechargeable battery hidden within the panels of the coat. Available in both a sleek, cashmere style and a lighter trench, the coats are seriously on-trend as well as being the ultimate live-saver.

According to Rana, the idea for the coats came to her when she was planning a holiday with her six-year-old son. She said: ‘My six-year-old last year asked me if I was going to take him on holiday to the North Pole. He said ‘If we do mummy, can you please make sure you buy us jackets that heat?’ That’s when I had that light-bulb moment.’

Rana is currently raising funds on her KickStarter project, in which she hopes to raise $70,000 (£50,000) by May 10th, in order to get her incredibly unique line going.

So far she has raised $30,000 (£21,000) of her goal, from 42 generous backers all keen on trying out the new coat. We totally hope this becomes a thing, because a heated coat that charges your phone is quite literally a dream come true.
