If there were ever such a thing as a democratic fashion label, AWAYTOMARS would be it. Reinventing the design process structure, the brand harnesses the power of online communities with a collective of 2000+ users that co-create designs, uploading and sharing their ideas and offering advice and feedback. After a crowdfunding campaign for each product, AWAYTOMARS then manufacture the finished garment. The result? Edgy, cool pieces that are experimental but also ultra-wearable. Expect innovative prints and contrasting textures on fun, every-day separates.
Founded in 2016, Gianoi create luxurious smart handbags that combine handy technology with elegant design and high-end Italian craftsmanship. With an inbuilt charger, you can keep you phone juiced while on the move and be notified of calls and texts with a pulsating light. With a companion app, you have more functionalities that filter your most important notifications. Design-wise, we love Gianoi’s understated but fashion-led styles in quality leathers.
Thanks to Stella McCartney and other eco-minded designers, ethical fabrics are firmly in fashion’s consciousness. New Jersey-based company Modern Meadow are a new player currently making waves in the animal-free arena. Utilising cutting edge biotechnology processes, they synthesise sustainable, biofabricated leather, growing nature’s materials in a lab. Named ‘Zoa’, the incredible fabric is made from living collagen proteins. In years to come, could Zoa be the go-to fabric for designers? Rumour has it they’re already working with major fashion houses, so watch this space…
Cleverly blending chemistry and art with design, The Unseen create truly unique items and accessories that transform according to their environment and even react to their wearer’s physical status. Embedded with a specially formulated ink, their bags, jewellery and phone cases change through black, red, green and blue when touched with warm hands. Made with exquisite materials, each The Unseen piece is gorgeously crafted and we love their tactile qualities.
The future of knitwear design? Quite possibly. Unmade is a technology power-platform that lets customers edit and customise a design with a few swipes on their device. Brands and designers can give their shoppers a truly personalised service using Unmade’s unique customisation editor technology, which lets them choose colours, warp graphic patterns and stretch designs. Early adopters include Opening Ceremony and Christopher Raeburn, who retailed fully customisable sweaters on their ecommerce platforms.
